I agree with you about Christmas and pretty much everything you've said about all other religions. I didn't leave JWs to join another church. But you can't honestly sit there as someone who claims to never have been a JW and tell someone who was for over 30 years that he was never lied to by them. You seem like an intelligent person, but you're clearly not getting your information about them from an objective source. Don't you think whether or not they lie about fundamental doctrines like 1914, secretly join the UN after telling people that it represented the wild beast in Revelation, and protect child molesters are far more important details than whether or not they're right about christmas? Besides, there are a lot of other things that have a pagan origin which they do not condemn. You don't find this hypocritical?

As a JW, did you ever stand for the national anthem ...
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inmy conscience wouldn't allow me to do otherwise.
after all, this is the country that schooled me and fed me.
i use all the infrastructure here, and am entitled to all rights and benefits that any other citizen was entitled to.

I never equated standing out of respect with idolatry. Whenever I went to sporting events with other witnesses who I knew wouldn't stand, that's the time I picked to go to the restroom or the concession stand. Being seen sitting while the national anthem was playing was mortifying to say the least.

What convinced you?
It was either when you said they were never lied to or coerced in any way, or when you said that they were exposed to all types of literature, that no religious literature was banned. Anyone who has ever been a witness will tell you how completely false these statements are.

Hell yes! I never missed it, every day when I got home from school. I'm suspecting that there will be a lot of thirtysomething guys who grew up in the 80's who will go to see it. I can't wait.

What's your take on "stumbling"...
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inthe phrase "cause for stumbling" often left me bewildered.
tell you what to do counsel you and impose their own opinions on you.
maybe i did something in the past that "stumbled" someone, but aren't we all able to make our own decisions when it comes to conduct and choices ... at least we should be, especially if it isn't regarding something inherently wrong.

The last DC I attended, there was a part on the program that dealt with the issue of stumbling. There was a demonstration with a couple that was having company over. They had alcohol lying around the house and decided that they should put it somewhere where it couldn't be seen, just in case the people they were entertaining didn't drink; it might stumble them. It was absolutely the most ludicrous thing I had ever seen.

Yeah, I went to the last one they had in Madison back in 2003. The next two were in Rockford. This year's would've been in Green Bay where they used to have them in the late 70's/early 80's before moving them to Madison. The good ole days. Then good old Madison, Wisconsin. But they haven't had any there for years.

Kirk Cameron should have stuck to mediocre sitcoms
by under_believer inhe's currently tamed up with this guy called ray comfort and together they run a "ministry" where they make banal observations and say that it proves god exists.

Well. That was pretty darn homoerotic.
Exactly what I was thinking, but I wasn't secure enough in my sexuality to say it first.

Isn't Jehovah a wonderful God?
by nvrgnbk inwhen i look around at all the people in the world, i'm comforted to know that jehovah will soon destroy them.. i'm talking about people that don't attend our encouraging christian meetings.
yes, people that don't zealously participate in the preaching of the good news.
'what good news?

Yes, I can't wait to see little children getting their eyes pecked out by birds because their mommy and daddy didn't teach them what a wonderful god Jehovah is.

Hi Wayne,
I am convinced by your last post that you are not now, nor have you ever been a JW. I for one would like to apologize for doubting you on this matter, though I never did openly.
